Prairie grass burn

Once a year the City of Nauvoo come and burn the prairie grass on an acre of land. It grows all year long and is the hiding place of animals. Nature cleanses and what is left is dark ash dirt. This is very fertle soil and is the beginning of new growth. So we experienced this occassion last Tuesday. This location is a block away from our house. Hope you enjoy.

why don't they just cut it and feed it to something? Maybe they already have plenty of grass for livestock. Does the wildlife just move somewhere else?

Good question. They had the children run through the grass to get the animals out. Not that many though because it is only an acre. Part of the demonstration of how life was in the 1800. Lost of prairie grass and lots of fires that went quickly.
